Seoul, South Korea
[info]paperc

It's been a long... past couple of weeks. Tried to organize things within limited space and time. Was quite stressful, but it worked out in the end...

I feel so blessed that I have friends who will always be there for me when I need them. I wouldn't have been able to do half the things I have done without them.

Anyway, my New Year resolutions was to visit at least one country that I have never been. And here I am! Sitting in a coffee shop updating about my vacation in South Korea. One new country for me. Mission accomplished!

Korea is awesome. It's so cold for me (but everywhere is cold for me anyway) but I love how the indoors are so warm.

There has been some Korean craze going on in Bangkok for a while. I haven't been paying attention though. I maybe have seen on Korean soap that I like. And one disturbing Korean movie that I really like and that's about it. I didn't know a whole lot about this awesome country. I layover here once. That's about it. I didn't even know what their currency is until a week or so before I came visit. As usual I came here pretty clueless and that's the fun part of it.

I had spent one night in Shanghai prior to this trip. I felt that I was coming down with something but I was downplaying it.

The next day arrived in Seoul and was overwhelm with excitement. All the girls have beautiful thick hair. Really pretty skin but I didn't see anyone that look like people I had seen on TV especially the guys.

So my main only goal here is to eat a lot of local food, and maybe a little bit of winter clothes shopping. I completed my shopping with the first 2 days. It was as much fun ad shopping in Hong Kong which is very very good. Food is so good here too! Have a lot of flavor, not the cheapest food in the world though but worth it.

I probably was too hard on myself and made myself go out with a cold. I completely collapsed yesterday and spent a day in bed with a fever. Missing so much of Seoul but I guess it's okay. I am glad that I get to experience this country not as a complete tourist but a little bit of a... I don't know. So much local scene. I love it.

All I have to say about Seoul is that it's similar to any other big cities in the world. There are some awesome parts with some local art scene and stuff. It's very clean. While I'm sipping my mocha caramel latte... Waiting for my flight to leave I wish that I was in a better spirit that I wasn't so ill that I was able to enjoy this trip more.

Until next time... Go away fever!

Mogwai and Ladytron
Pap
[info]paperc
We have been getting some decent bands this year, yay! I never thought I would get to see half of these bands here in Bangkok. So cool though. Keep them coming.

So earlier last week (or the week before), when the flood just started to dry, Mogwai was scheduled to play in Bangkok at this odd location. I personally find it hard to get to but can't complain right? As long as it's cost-effective enough for cool bands to come and play here.

So! Mogwai was pretty cool. I saw some people left positive comments on Facebook, like, they were so touched by the noise and that they were weeping in the middle of the show. I mean, can you be more dramatic? It's cool though. For me I felt the whole thing was kind of held back. It wasn't completely let go or something. So it reflected on the sound, I mean for me... personally... I don't know about you, who were there... but I find it kind of not as powerful or mind-blowing or emotional as it could have been. I could only blame it on the lighting? And the sound system? There was clearly some sound problem towards the end. Good show usually left me heart pounding, ear ringings (like MONO Japan! if I were to compare within the same genre), but this one was like... nothing. But all in all it was pretty good.

This one is from my phone...

It makes me wonder what would it be like to see Sigur Ros live? I hope they don't suck live. I still wish I would get a chance to see them one of these days.

Anyway, one of my favorite bands Ladytron played a few days later. I was stoked when I found out they would play in Bangkok. Because Ladytron to me is absolutely, strikingly distinct. They're so unique in my book, the music and the vocal, and I love them. I would never ever thought I'd get to see them in my hometown. And I knew they would be fun to see live, I was not at all disappointed. They gave such fun and energetic show, not to mention the lead vocal, Helen, was gorgeous in person. They played a few songs from each of their albums, but mostly from their newest album. It was absolutely phenomenal.

From my camera but the quality came out bad for some reason!

I'm so glad I went against all odds. :P It was so worth it. Came home and put their songs on repeat for a few days. I just wish Nan was here to see them with me, that would have been even more fun.

And this one just for a kick! :) ♥

This post is long overdue! So I have been traveling for the past one month which was awesome because it was the first time I get to schedule my work around my vacation, probably my last time too. It was so awesome until I was actually going through it. Between each trip I had like 1 night to sleep at home and it was more tiring than I thought it would be.

So, the first stop was Hong Kong. It’s always good to go to Hong Kong. I love Hong Kong. People are so nice. Plus it has become my favorite market to work with. Everything went smoothly, no headache, no stress, no nothing.

Hong Kong )

So, the last day I catch the last flight out and arrived back in Bangkok late at night. Got home and switched suitcases like a pro. I had packed this other one before I left for Hong Kong and it was the best idea I’ve ever had.

The next early morning I woke up to my dad complaint because he was driving me to the airport and it was getting too frequently for his liking, and why I was going when the flood was getting pretty severe in Bangkok. But he drove me anyway. A lot of people were afraid to leave their homes or trying to protect them as best as they could. This included one of our friends, P’Som who was supposed to go on this vacation with us. She decided to stay behind and prepare for the flood.

Krabi, beach vacation )

The next day I had to fly to Singapore but this time I didn’t pack in advance. I didn’t even book a flight until a few days before while I was in Krabi let alone packing. But I was home in the afternoon so I had some time.

Singapore )

Another new thing I have experienced this time was… I hate to say this but I have not seen many good-looking men here (sorry!) Unlike Hong Kong & Shanghai I saw plenty but here… even though they have the same ancestor I don’t know what happened? I’m sure I didn’t look hard enough. Before I jumped to the conclusion one of my respondents had to show up. And you know that awkward moment when your respondent is so hot you can’t focus. Well, this never happened before. This guy just saved the entire nation.

Spare me the details )

So yeah, that was it for Singapore. I flew back home and realized on the same day that I had a chance to visit Shanghai. I was excited because I like Shanghai a lot. And it’s always good to go to Shanghai. So that left me 2 nights at home before I flew again.

I thought I would do the update when it's all over, but there has been so much negativity going on in Thailand and I need to vent.

Yesterday I almost missed my flight. Not because of the usual but the airport was VERY crowded. It's usually crowded on a Sunday but yesterday was exceptionally crowded. That tops up with the already slow performance of the airline ground staff and the immigration staff and who else? They are all slow. It was 10 minutes before the gate close (which is 10 minutes before departure for Thai Airways) and I was still on the immigration line even though I was surprisingly calm but that doesn't it mean it's acceptable for the staff to be slow at times like this. You know that panic people are going to try to escape the flood.

And talking about the flood I have come to the point where I don't want to hear about it anymore. If it's not going to flood, that's great. If it's going to flood, flood. Anticipation and suspension drive me nuts. You know, it's been weeks that we've been waking up holding our breath thinking if it was going to flood today. At this point I think we are pretty much prepared, definitely mentally. So bring it on and get it over with so we can move on. There is no point shifting blame and create even more conflicts (this is to you idiots out there who like to share pictures you didn't take with dramatic captions showing gratitude or ingratitude towards certain groups of people, you are a tool. Stop it.) We can't deny the obvious that the government and whoever else involved have been inefficiency in handling the situation but has the government ever been efficiency? Not just this one. So if you're not one of those people who actually gets up and get their hands on then please just stop with the boosting opposition, you're not helping. And maybe I'm not helping either but at least I am not generating negativity. What would you do that for anyway? To make other people feel good? Plus I don't know which one is true or false anymore. So annoying.

I thought this was about Hong Kong? )

And when it hurts the most I'll push a little more. I'm back where I started at.

I have been writing this entry since Tuesday and been neglecting, disrupting. I can't find an end to it. But here I am. Forcing myself to finish it 'cause writing is good for me. This is going to be one of the hugest ranting posts though. If you stumble upon this to look for a delightful read please proceed no further. But if you are one of those people whom I asked specifically to read this because I need your attention right now please keep reading. :)

So I had been back to Singapore since the beginning of last week, Tuesday to be specific. There was a 4 days gap between my previous trip to Singapore and this one. Isn't that so cool? Anyway, I tried to pack 2 days before I had to flew back but I was so distracted even though I knew that the night before my departure I had to be out and about but still. Packing has become something like... writing a report, maybe? If the deadline is not looming over then I just can't bring myself to do it.  Not recommended but you'd be surprised on how much I could get done within so little time. It's like ideas are flowing, adrenaline is shooting through my veins, creativity is at peak so I usually wish I had more time. :P

Okay, back to packing. I ended up throwing things in the suitcase on the morning of my flight. Very last minute. Resulting me spent the whole flight thinking if I had forgotten something. It was so annoying. And I know the fault is mine. I did forget something too. A battery charger for my camera. So I didn't take a whole lot of pictures this time. It didn't bother me so much though because this trip marked the 4th time in Singapore for me. I even took the picture of the Merlion at the very same angle as the one I took last year. I didn't realize this until I saw it on Facebook.

Checked into the same hotel. The reception recognized me (of course it's been 4 days) "Welcome back, ma'am" She said. Nevertheless, I was impressed. Until she put me to the room at the end of the hallway with the weirdest room layout ever! It was like I had this little alley within the room where it led me to the study desk and on the right side of it was a bathroom that the had this thing to make the entrance (to the bathroom) uneven. I tripped on the thing almost every morning when I was in a hurry.

And I hated having to walk to the end of the wing with a passion. It was so The Shining to me. Creepy.

Photobucket

If I didn't know there were people staying in the surrounding rooms I would have asked for a different one, closer to the elevator. I could have but for some reason I didn't. Because that's what I do I dwell on things no matter how much I hate I will just sit on it until it hurt so much I can't breathe, then I do something about.

Anyway, the first day we had a little time to walk around in the evening. So I showed my co-worker the usual - landmarks of Singapore, trying local food, and so on.

The second day was an exhausting day so I won't talk about it so much. I just felt so exhausted here. Everyday I felt like I had no energy. It seemed like getting up one hour early made me much more tired than going to bed one hour later. But my sleeping pattern is messed up lately so... I don't know. It made me such a cranky bitch. There was an incident here too that triggered my crankiness to surface... The waiter at the hotel spilled something on my bag. If it was any bag I wouldn't get so mad but it was my Westside Market grocery bag that I have an emotional attachment to it. That and the fact that he should have tried to go out of his way to clean it for me instead of using a wet napkin to rub it off. Big mistake. Huge.

He asked his boss to speak to me explaining how they wouldn't be able to return the bag to me within time if they had to wash it and so on. I told them "I don't care how or what you do" something along that line and that they had to give the bag back to me, stain free, before I check out. I felt bad afterward about my behavior but at that moment I just couldn't hold back. Again because that's what I do. Impulsive and regret afterward. Although they could give me the bag back the next morning that incident made a bad impression on me. I probably won't stay at that hotel again if I ever go back to Singapore. I still think working in the hospitality industry they should have shown their pro-activeness better.

Moving on to a more happy note. There was a change of schedule on the following day and I thought "Yay! Universal Studio!" But ended up working the whole morning. So no Universal Studio for me. It was okay though. At least I worked by the pool or that fake waterfall at the hotel. We stayed on Orchard Rd. So every evening we walked around finding different places to eat and  what strike me was I could hear a bird chirping sound. It was so loud and very out of place. I even thought it was a sound recording! I thought it was weird too, why would they play a bird chirping sound on the middle of the city. To naturalized the most commercialized, busiest, shopping district a bit? But happened it was real! Pretty amazing. Pretty random. :)

Apart from the fact that there was nothing much to do here and the food kind of suck, it is still a lovely country. Still very clean, very organized, very rich. I have never seen so many Lamborghini's in one place. Why are you so rich? Is it because you wake up one hour earlier?

Photobucket

Keep it up.

In Singapore again...

Oh... Singapore Singapore... even the new casino can't save you from sucking.

Just kidding...

:)

Everyone knows how much I like it here. My mom is even here to take care of me this time. Saving her daughter. I got here earlier today and it seems like a long day already. And it's been raining... We have been doing things I have already done a few times and they are pretty much all there is to do here. So fun.

Stoked every single time...

But at least the hotel is nice. Kudo for the THANN toiletry. I'm loving it.

I'm so dreading tomorrow. I've been listening to the same song over and over again. Somebody please give me a chill pill. Something is very very wrong.

Shanghai 2011: This economically booming city is waiting for no one.
Crepe
[info]paperc
I had no access to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube for a week because the VPN trial period that my co-worker sent me was expired and I also went 48 hours without checking emails. When was the last time this happened? Never? Usually as soon as I get up I grab the phone and check my emails like I can't wait to find out what Bath & Body Works has to offer today. It's not a bad thing though, not checking emails or not social networking. Pretty refreshing actually. Need to learn to do that more often.

Anyway, it's been hot in Shanghai. It's so hot it rains but everyday (almost) has been nothing but fun, it's such a perfect time to be in Shanghai. I needed this. It helped a lot. Although I started to adopt this having ice-cream after every single meal behavior. I need to stop that.

Photobucket

I find the ice-cream here is not as sweet as in Thailand though. So maybe I won't get so fat?

Anyway, highlight of the trip would be meeting Minako again (Columbia memories!), and Xian... Xian is so lovely. She's an angel. She basically feed me and put the roof over my head. Both Minako and Xian are lovely. I'm so glad I met them. And of course, meeting friends here, the remaining ones and new ones, is always good.

Photobucket

So, one weekend I went out during the day to see the city. I was contemplating using my very last roll of the lomo film. Because if nothing came out I would be heartbroken again but it started to rain hard, and I got stuck at this Lomography store 'cause I was checking out the film and comparing prices. So I ended up spending a lot of time there, walking up and down between the 4 - 5 storeys building of theirs, hanging out with people who work there and having them took my pictures (I ended up using the film), etc. It was weird. The store was pretty awesome though. I think Shan took me here once.

Until the rain died down a little I jumped back on the taxi and Half Asleep was randomly playing on my iPod I felt like I was in the music video... It made me happy for some reason... until the taxi driver dropped me off in the rain. Was not cool.

Time went by too fast by the time I had to leave I had to pick up the roll and was so glad that at least half of it came out somewhat visible! Some progress... On the way out one of the employees was asking me "what does pick up line mean?" with my limited English skill I had to give them the Tennessee example. Lame, I know.

My departure flight was delayed though. Lucky I was there kind of early (like 15 mins early :P) even though I went to the wrong terminal and I didn't know that I had to checked in with Shanghai Airlines not China Eastern? But why does Shanghai Airlines suck so much? Why is it a Star Alliance member? If I wasn't in a good mood earlier it would have ruined my entire night. I mean, what is this? Delta? Delaying both trips is not cool. On the way here was understandable but my departure was pretty BS.

Anyway, came home and totally forgot that the BTS was extended to my street I took the taxi to the very same station I always get on. I have a hugest laundry load to do this weekend. Before I finish this I wanted to say that there is something about Shanghai that I really really like. It definitely is The City of Love (or one of them) and matching shirts.

Photobucket

It's so cute, so sappy, so inspiring... It makes me want to create a story where everybody is in love with everybody but everybody is already with somebody where it's very complicated, so complicated even I get confused. When is that movie Shanghai, I Love You coming out? Anyway, I really like Shanghai a lot, and it's always send me off with a smile.

P.S. I thank you for this slightly smaller adapter. It helped my shoulders.

Shanghai 2011 - Is Shanghai still waiting for me?
Crepe
[info]paperc
I was completely out of it for the past couple of days? Weeks? It's been hard to get myself to do anything. And of course I didn't check or know or realize that there was a storm coming the day I had to fly to Shanghai. So I did the usual and ended up spent 6 hours waiting at the airport. Good thing I finished a book that I meant to finish months before. But now I have nothing to read. (Maybe I'll go buy one of these fake books since I'm in China?)

Anyway, the flight was the scariest flight I have ever been on. So much turbulent I was so tensed the whole flight thinking if I was going to make it to Shanghai. After I landed though, it was like nothing ever happened, as if there was never any storm. The road was dry and the sky was clear. I thought the flight got delayed for nothing until I heard from people here that the storm was pretty severe, like it blew stuff like windows or things around and people were suggested not to leave their home. I missed it.

So this time I stayed at a different hotel. A bit further from the office than the hotel I stayed last year but in a better, more happening location. It's right in between of the West Nanjing Rd. and Jin An Temple. So I'm loving it even though the hotel looks kind of shady from the outside, and the room is very tiny, and I didn't have the internet for 2 days, and non of the staff speak any English, and... anyway, it's not so bad, I am just so glad to be able to be back in Shanghai again.

So the first night we walked along Nanjing West and got dinner at none other than my favorite Shengjian place, Yang's. Yummy as usual.

Photobucket

And today I got drop off and random places. Got the Taiwanese beef noodle (that I have been craving) and random places, wandering around for a little bit, I didn't know how to get back to the hotel but I gotta love the taxi here. Compare to the taxis in Bangkok, gosh I hate the taxis in Bangkok and how they reject passengers. Here they are quite polite (still driving like maniacs but...), I don't know, I find them more polite than the ones in Bangkok.

So that was the past few days in Shanghai in the summer again. I will probably write more... I need to write more. Or starting to... It will be good for me.

Tomorrow I get to meet Minako. I can't wait to see her again. :)

Updating from another airport
